A Hall of Fame Doctor Says Summertime Flu Has Arrived
This week, The MGM Show featured an internist and medical director with Hawthorn Medical Associates Internal Medicine at Brown Health Medical Group. Dr. Jordan Gularek shared his once-in-a-lifetime experience of getting honored with a healthcare Hall of Fame award handed to him by a Cooperstown Hall of Famer, David Ortiz.
The Question at the End of the Interview
Just before we wrapped up our interview with Dr. Gularek, we asked a quick question about any heath trends he is noticing.
"What are you seeing out there right now?" I asked. "Is there anything brewing? Are you seeing a lot of broken arms from trampolines or any other trend that you're recognizing in your medical world right now?
"Actually right now, it's the beginning of September and we're actually seeing a lot of influenza, which is crazy," Dr. Gularek said. "It's extremely early. I visit a few nursing homes as part of my practice, and was surprised to see that there are already some positive tests coming back."

Is It Too Early for Flu Season in Massachusetts
Gularek said that this has the makings of a long, hard flu season.
"That's just not something that we expect to see this early," he said. "It's only mid September, we're still a week away from the official start of the fall season. To have the flu rearing its head in what is still technically summertime in New England is certainly uncommon."
When Should You Get Your Flu Shot
The Hall of Fame doctor couldn't stress enough the benefits of getting your flu shot as soon as possible.
