A section of Route 6 in Fairhaven has been reopened following a Tuesday morning car accident.

Police Sgt. Kevin Kobza tells WBSM News that at approximately 11:10 a.m. a car, identified as a 2011 Red Volkswagen Golf was travelling on Route 6W when it struck a utility pole near 343 Huttleston Ave., causing the pole to snap in half.

The car ended up on its roof with wires across the undercarriage.

Kobza says the road was shut down for approximately 40 minutes as crews worked to clear the scene.

The driver, identified as a 71-year-old woman from Onset, was extracted from the car with the assistance of EMS crews from Mattapoissett.

Her current condition wasn't available.
