The Boston Bruins announced, Monday, that they signed 2016 first round draft pick Charlie McAvoy to a three-year, entry-level contract.

McAvoy is expected to join the team prior to their first round playoff series with the Ottawa Senators, as Boston has multiple defensemen questionable or already ruled out for the series.

The defenseman was drafted 14th overall by Boston in last year's draft out of Boston University.

In two seasons with the BU Terriers, McAvoy totaled eight goals and 43 assists to lead all Terrier defenders in scoring. He also played as a member of Team USA on four separate occasions, with his latest experience coming as an alternate captain for the gold medal-winning 2017 Under-20 World Junior Champions team.

McAvoy will likely see his fair share of playing time, with both Torey Krug and Brandon Carlo out with injuries.
