Taunton’s Bristol-Plymouth High School Names Matt Grenon First Athletic Director of New Campus

As Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School prepares to open the doors to its brand-new campus this August, the school is also welcoming a new leader who will help shape the future of Craftsmen athletics from day one.

Warren, Rhode Island native Matt Grenon has been named the school's new Athletic Director, stepping into the role just as Bristol-Plymouth enters an exciting new chapter. Grenon succeeds longtime Athletic Director Mark Lebeda and becomes the first person to oversee the athletic program in the school's new state-of-the-art facility.

For Grenon, the opportunity is one he admits he never saw coming. "I didn't see myself in this role 10 years ago, but I'm very grateful," Grenon said. "The B-P community is great, the kids are great, and I'm excited for the future. The sky's the limit."

Building on Four Years of Relationships

Grenon is no stranger to Bristol-Plymouth. Over the past four years, he has worked in the building as a behavior interventionist while also serving as the boys basketball coach and helping with varsity baseball this past season. He'll continue wearing multiple hats, serving as both Athletic Director and Assistant to the Director of Discipline while working closely with the school's assistant principals.

The job comes with a three-year contract, and perhaps more importantly, an opportunity to help establish the fighting spirit of athletics inside a brand-new school. "I can't wait until we can get back on school grounds," Grenon said. "Everything has been at different facilities in the area, and it's been a headache. With the new school coming, it's a great fresh start for the kids."

A Lifelong Passion for Sports

Grenon's love for athletics began as a three-sport athlete at Bishop Stang High School, where he competed in basketball, baseball and soccer. Even today, he laughs that watching sports is still his favorite pastime, while giving plenty of credit to his wife, whom he calls his biggest supporter at home.

Sports also played a much bigger role in his life than simply competing. "If it wasn't for sports, sports got me through high school," he said. "The school part wasn't big for me." That's why one of his biggest goals is creating opportunities for as many students as possible to get involved. "I want as many kids involved," Grenon said. "It's a huge way to meet kids and parents. It's a community."

Creating a New Era for the Craftsmen

With a new building comes a chance to build something special that Grenon hopes attracts respected coaches who share his vision for Bristol-Plymouth athletics while inspiring students to take pride in representing the Craftsmen. "I want to bring in well-known coaches who can shine a light in the community who share the same passion I do," Grenon said. "I love sports. I love being in it, being in the mud. The amount of support has been heartwarming. I feel appreciated."

As students prepare to walk through the doors of a brand-new school this fall, Grenon hopes they'll find more than just new classrooms and facilities. He wants them to discover the same sense of belonging through athletics that helped shape his own journey years ago.
