Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn hosted a conference on elder abuse Wednesday. The conference aimed to educate elderly residents and their families how they can be taken advantage of in the 21st century.

Quinn says scams are very popular among fraudsters these days, with the phony IRS call being one of the most effective schemes out there. "People are scared of the IRS. I'd be scared of the IRS," says Quinn. "But that's the attraction to the scam. It jolts people. They got my next door neighbor, she said 'I was scared when they called me."

Quinn says the best thing to do is not interact with anybody asking for money over the phone.
