Breastfed babies may be smarter babies, according to a new study.

Researchers found that children who were breastfed through the first year after birth scored higher on measures of language recognition at age three, and higher on verbal and non-verbal IQ tests at age seven. Scientists studied more than 1,300 mothers and their babies.

The study was reported Monday in the journal "JAMA Pediatrics."
