Route 79 / Braga Bridge Improvements Project Means Traffic Changes

Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 12, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation will implement traffic changes through the middle of December.

• Vehicles on Route 79/138 (Broadway) bound for Interstate 195 (I-195) east and westbound will be shifted to a temporary ramp to allow demolition of the existing elevated ramp.
• Close North Davol Street to two-way traffic between Central Street and the u-turn and open South Davol Street to two-way traffic between Central Street and the u-turn.
• Open Water Street Connector to one-way traffic and open a portion of Route 79/138 (Broadway) from Columbia Street to the Water Street Connector to two-way traffic.
• Close Anawan Street/Pocasset Street to through traffic between Davol Street and the Work Out World (WOW) parking lot (local access will be maintained).

Visit the Traffic page of the project website for details and to view detour maps. Signage will be in place indicating detour routes and police details will be present to facilitate travel through the work zones.

Local access to area attractions and abutting properties will be maintained at all times. All businesses will remain open. Motorists should follow the Battleship Cove Area signage for access to the waterfront.

MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes if not destined for the project area to avoid delays. Drivers who are traveling through the affected area to reach local businesses or attractions should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
