Are you currently feeling like there is a sign on your back that says, “Kick Me?” Or maybe you feel like all of your relationships are a little off and you’re not really sure why? You’re not imagining it. Mercury has been in retrograde since Saturday, May 29, and will be until Tuesday, June 22. According to local psychic, Stephanie Burke, this one is a real doozy.

"It’s safe to say nothing could’ve prepared us for this,” said Burke. “This is the worst Mercury retrograde of the year. This time, it’s in the sign of Gemini where Mercury is most comfortable, thus allowing it to reach its full potential while in retrograde. While they’re all challenging, this one will be the toughest for us in 2021. Not to mention it’s happening right in the middle of eclipse season!”

There will be a partial solar eclipse visible from the SouthCoast on Thursday, June 10. Sunrise will be at 5:09 am and the best chance to see this celestial event will be around 5:30 am. Burke will have more information available about what to expect and how to prepare for this a little later. But she did note that the eclipse will have a greater impact on how Mercury retrograde affects our lives this week.

“Have all your electronics gone haywire,” asks Burke. “Any mechanical and technical things breaking or malfunctioning? Miscommunication around every corner? Ex-lovers and friends coming out of the woodwork? Secrets revealing themselves? Anxiety at an all-time high? This is some pretty intense energy that we’re dealing with and you’re not alone.”

The experience may be different for others, but for me, it is this overwhelming sense of self-doubt and a lack of confidence. I can honestly tell you I am trying so hard to be a better version of myself in all areas of my life and it feels like nothing I do is good enough. I’m always going to fall short and let someone down.

“There is no way around it, we all must experience it and charge through it,” said Burke. “The best way to handle the madness is to stop, breathe, walk away for a bit if you must, and take your time! Slow and steady wins this race.”

The energy started a couple of weeks before the retrograde and lasts a couple of weeks after. So, we’re looking at dealing with this energy until around Wednesday, July 7. Carve out extra time for projects and travel. Make sure you back up and double-check anything you’re working on. Avoid dramatic or gossipy situations. Mercury is the planet of communication, so everything will be out in the open.

"Remember that even though we dread these retrogrades (and they can get pretty wild), it’s meant to help us focus on things that need a little extra attention in our lives," said Burke. "Whether that’s ourselves, our family, or a special project, it’s worth slowing down to make sure it’s done right. It helps us to focus on what’s important and to reflect on situations or projects that we may have put on the back burner.”

Here are a few tips to make it to July 7 in one piece:

  1. Get yourself outside if possible and watch a sunset.
  2. Meet up or connect with old friends that you miss because life has been busy.
  3. Take time to finish that book or tv show you’ve been watching.
  4. Go for a walk and enjoy nature.
  5. Try something new.
  6. Whatever you do, don’t pick up the phone when your ex calls
