FREETOWN (WBSM) — A Berkley man was arrested after leading police on a chase from East Freetown into his hometown.
How the Pursuit Began
According to Freetown Police, on Saturday, November 15 at about 8:45 p.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Chace Road in East Freetown. The driver refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed.

Officers continued the pursuit as the vehicle traveled west on Chace Road, then onto Slab Bridge Road, Elm Street and North Main Street, continuing north toward the Berkley town line.
How Officers Stopped the Vehicle
A Berkley Police officer deployed a tire-deflation device, which the vehicle struck. As the pursuit continued into Berkley, the suspect’s vehicle ultimately came to a stop at the Berkley Community School. Police took the driver, identified as William A. Silvia, 41, of Berkley, into custody without incident.

Police said Silvia had two outstanding warrants out of Taunton District Court. He was also charged with failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and speeding, as he was allegedly clocked going 60 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone.
