Attleboro Elementary Teacher Placed on Leave for Allegedly Slapping Two Students
ATTLEBORO (WBSM) — An investigation is underway in Attleboro after a teacher at an elementary school allegedly slapped two students.
Attleboro Public Schools Superintendent David Sawyer issued a statement on the issue Wednesday evening.
According to Sawyer, late in the afternoon of Tuesday, November 26, administrators at Thacher Elementary School contacted the superintendent’s office regarding “a troubling incident that occurred at the school.”
“Administrators learned that a physical altercation occurred between a teacher and two students in a classroom in which the teacher allegedly slapped the two students,” Sawyer said.
He said an investigation was launched in accordance with district procedures, and that Attleboro Police and the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families were both notified.
Sawyer said that as part of the initial investigation, the teacher has been placed on administrative leave. The name of the teacher was not released.
“This is disheartening news, as the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority,” Sawyer said. “We take situations like this very seriously and are committed to collaborating with Attleboro Police as they conduct a thorough investigation.”
