Never underestimate the power of a kind gesture.

Tori Barish was left speechless after a gentleman working a kiosk in the Emerald Square Mall in Attleboro tried to sell her hair products, and when he realized that Barish was a cancer survivor, he did something wonderful.

On Thursday, the 27-year-old Barish was getting some holiday shopping done at the Emerald Square Mall when she was approached by a man who was trying to sell a top-of-the-line hair straightener, but due to the hat that Barish was wearing, he didn’t realize that she was bald.

It’s not by choice. Barish had been diagnosed with breast cancer and gone through chemotherapy, which had stolen her luscious locks from her. She found out on December 3 that there were no longer any active cancer cells in her body. It was the best Christmas gift a girl could ask for.

“When I have my hat off, people kind of look at me like I have six heads,” Barish said. “Bald women aren’t the norm.”

She explained to the kind worker that she had just beat cancer but didn’t have any hair yet.

“He says to me, ‘So you beat it?’" she said. "He opened his drawer and said, ‘I want you to have this, so when your hair grows back, you can style it and do whatever you want with it.’ He handed it to me, and I was speechless.”

She later looked up the product online and discovered it was worth over $200.

It wasn’t about the price tag, though, but rather it was about showing compassion for a complete stranger.

“He hugged me, and as he was hugging me, I was trying not to cry,” Barish said. “As soon as I turned around, I started sobbing.”

Barish explained how emotional the gesture was for her. She has gone through a lot in her young life.

“I always feel like I have to hide, and he made a point to go out of his way to make my day,” she said.

Thanks to TikTok, she was able to track down the kind man and properly thank him for his sweet gesture, proving that small acts of kindness can make a gigantic impact.

Barish’s hair has begun to grow back, and she’ll be able to style it in no time.
