Attleboro Attempted Robbery Suspect Sentenced
ATTLEBORO (WBSM) — An Allston woman was sentenced on firearm charges after she shot a gas station clerk in Attleboro during an attempted robbery.
Ashley Weaver, 33, pleaded guilty to indictments charging her with carrying an illegal firearm, armed assault with intent to rob, and assault and battery.
On May 20, 2019 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Attleboro Police responded to the Mobil gas station on Newport Avenue for the report of a gunshot. Upon arrival, the clerk told the police that he had been shot by someone trying to rob him. The victim had gunshot wounds to his stomach.
The victim told police he was taking the trash outside when he saw what he thought was a young Black male approach him with a gun, while demanding money. The victim then chased after the suspect. That's when the suspect shot him in the stomach.
The suspect fled the scene before the victim hit the panic alarm inside the store. Nothing was taken by the suspect during the incident.
The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he had surgery for his injuries.
Attleboro Police said they received a tip days later that the suspect was a woman named Ashley Weaver.
The police showed the victim photos of several individuals, one of whom was Weaver. The victim immediately identified her as the person who shot him.
Weaver was arrested in Rhode Island while in possession of a firearm. She will serve five to seven years in state prison.
