MIDDLEBOROUGH — Police are investigating after a reported attempted abduction in Middleborough on Monday.

Middleborough Police Chief Joseph Perkins says his department received a report at 12:45 p.m. on Monday from a woman who said a man tried to abduct her on Clay Street.

The 27-year-old Middleborough woman told police she was walking down Clay Street when a man driving a rust red utility van drove up to her and began asking her for directions. Soon after, the man reportedly exited the van and walked up behind the woman, grabbing her by her face and pulling her toward his van.

The woman told police she was able to free herself and run from the man. She ran into the woods and called police, according to the report.

The man fled the area.

The victim described the suspect as a white male in his 40s or 50s wearing a backward baseball cap and sunglasses. The man also had light-colored facial hair.

Middleborough Police are investigating the reported attempted abduction. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has seen an individual matching the suspect's description is asked to call Middleborough Police at 508-947-1212.
