Local officials celebrated the 20th anniversary of Americorps with the dedication of a mural at Deane Street and Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford.

The mural honors those who dedicate their lives to service and volunteerism.

As part of the celebration, UMass Dartmouth graduate Ashley Nunez was sworn-in as an Americorps worker.  She will work in New Bedford for the next ten months.

Brian Pastori recently left the Americorps program after one year of service. He worked at the Community Economic Development Center in the North End and called it a great experience, but not without some hardship....

Twenty years of Americorps was recognized Friday in Washington in a ceremony at the White House attended by President Obama, and former President Bill Clinton.
