New Bedford police over the weekend arrested a Fall River man following a traffic stop and charged him with trafficking in narcotics.

Detectives on Saturday conducted a stop at the intersection of Kempton and Oneida streets and found a driver with an expired license, police said in a media release. As the result of the stop and an investigation, they seized 1,400 grams of fentanyl with a street value of approximately $140,000, the release said. A police spokesman did not say where or when the drugs were found, what kind of vehicle the man was driving, or what prompted the traffic stop.

Carlo Jimenez, 33, of 285 Sunset Hill in Fall River, was placed under arrest. He is charged with operating with an expired license and trafficking in fentanyl in excess of 200 grams. Detective Kevin Barbosa was the arresting officer.
