Acushnet to Bolster On-Call Firefighters Through Recruitment Drive
The Acushnet Fire Department will hold a recruitment drive later this month for individuals interested in joining the department as on-call firefighters.
The Town's fire department used to be staffed fully by volunteers, but is now made up of career firefighters and supported by paid on-call firefighters.
According to a release by the department, "on-called firefighters join the fire department join the fire department for chances to contribute to the community and learn new skills, for the opportunity to save lives, and camaraderie. Many are future career firefighters honing their skills while waiting for a full time position. Others come from the community with the united mission to make a difference in the community they serve."
On-call firefighters will respond to incidents based on the call and must be able to regularly respond to emergency and non-emergency service calls within a five minute travel time to an Acushnet Fire Station.

The Firefighter Recruitment Open House will be held Saturday, August 27, from 9 am to 12 pm at Station 1, 24 Russell Street.
