Mattapoisett was buzzing on Thursday, October 10th, the Mattapoisett Fire Department hosted its 3rd Annual Open House, welcoming families from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for a night filled with educational activities, good food, and a sense of community. The event, held at the fire station, offered a hands-on opportunity for both kids and adults to learn about fire safety while enjoying the company of fellow residents.

Local businesses played a big role in making the evening special. On-The-Go Catering and Nick’s Pizza of Mattapoisett provided delicious food, keeping everyone well-fed throughout the event. Meanwhile, Jill Fearons of the Friends of Jack Foundation donated over 200 special teddy bears, as well as a variety of sweet treats and desserts, adding a heartfelt touch to the night.

The fire department set up a swag table with stickers, honorary yellow fire helmets, and other goodies, making sure kids left with memorable keepsakes. There were also live demonstrations and interactive activities. Kids had the chance to learn how to properly extinguish a fire using a fire extinguisher, feel the power of a fire hose, and experience the weight of a real firefighter’s suit. These activities offered a unique, hands-on insight into the responsibilities and physical demands that firefighters face.

Even Sparky the Fire Dog made an appearance, posing for photos with excited families and bringing extra smiles to the kids' faces.

Fire Chief Andy Murray was on-site, greeting residents of Mattapoisett and surrounding SouthCoast towns. His presence further strengthened the sense of community and emphasized the importance of events like these in keeping fire safety top of mind.

The 3rd Annual Open House was a fun, educational evening for all, with a perfect blend of entertainment and valuable lessons. Families left with a greater understanding of fire safety, along with full bellies, sweet treats, and some fun memories shared with their community.
