Wareham Police are releasing their side of the story as it pertains to a video seen on social media, of a town police officer allegedly slapping a 58-year-old woman in the face.

The Wareham Police Department says the two officers were called to 17 Camardo Drive Wednesday morning to investigate an abandoned child complaint called in by a neighbor.

A video tape, recorded by the woman's son, shows a brief scuffle where the woman was apparently struck. 58-year-old Trudy Phillips was transported to Tobey Hospital and was soon released.

Police have released the site history, which shows within the past five years, police have responded to 17 Camardo Drive over forty times for a variety of reasons, some of which have resulted in arrests.

The matter is under investigation.
