A parking ban has been declared in Wareham.

The issuance of the ban means that any vehicle or other object on the public way must be removed to avoid damage caused by plows and sanding trucks.

Officials say any vehicle not removed from the public way within one hour after the beginning of the storm could be removed at the owner's expense.

Two areas of town, Main Street, from Chapel to the Tobey Homestead in the Wareham Village District, and Onset Avenue, from West Central to the Town Pier in the Onset Village District, will not be subject to the ban between 7:45 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Those who use private snowplow drivers to clear their driveways are being told to ensure that snow isn't pushed out onto the street or pushed into piles that block fire hydrants.

The homeowner will be charged for any snow that has to be removed from roadways.

Town officials say the parking ban will remain in effect during snow removal operations and will be cancelled when the Director of Municipal Maintenance has determined that the streets have been properly cleaned.

Although every efforts will be made by crews to plow carefully, residents are being told that the town will not be responsible for mailboxes, fencing, landscaping, etc., that a resident places within the layout of the road.
