A stubborn, smokey fire kept firefighters busy Wednesday afternoon, and also slowed traffic in the city's South End.

New Bedford firefighters were called to a parking lot off South First Street after flames were spotted coming from a large moving van parked near New England Moving and Storage.

District Chief Scott Kruger.....

Kruger says firefighters spent more than a hour extinguishing the fire, which required everything to be pulled from the truck and soaked with water.

He says smoke from the fire prompted police to close a section of Route 18 southbound.

Kruger says the fire is currently under investigation.
