Several organizations in the town of Falmouth are attempting to lease the famed Nobska Light from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The town of Falmouth is submitting the application.  It's being joined by the Falmouth Historical Society, Highland Hall and Gardens, and the Woods Hole Historical Museum.

The Falmouth Board of Selectmen approved the plan at its December 8th meeting.  Town Manager Julian Suso sys the plan will be sent to the Coast Guard by the end of the month.

According to the Cape Cod Times, the lease agreement will allow the organizations to restore the lighthouse and run programs there without having to pay rent.

Nobska Light is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world.  TheCoast Guard will still own the building, and maintain its light and foghorn.
