A New Bedford teen is facing charges following an early morning chase involving the Massachusetts State Police.

Lt. Daniel Richard says that at 2:43 a.m. Wednesday a trooper tried to stop a  a 2003 Ford Taurus at the on-ramp from Acushnet Ave. in New Bedford onto Route 140 North.

However, the driver wouldn't stop and a brief chase occurred.

The car then slowed down and the driver jumped out of the car and fled into the woods.

Richard says the car kept moving before colliding with a barrier and coming to rest.

A State Police K-9 Unit was called into to aid in the search and the suspect, identified only as a 16-year-old male, was taken into custody.

The teen is being charged with Using a motor vehicle without authority, Unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, Negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and Speeding.
