New Bedford Police have arrested a man in connection with a July 11 stabbing.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says that at around 5 p.m. Tuesday a State Trooper conducted a traffic stop on Route 140 southbound near the Kings Highway exit.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old David Luis Figueroa, was in the vehicle and taken into custody without incident.

Figueroa is accused of stabbing a 63-year-old man several times with a kitchen knife and cutting his throat.

Police say Figueroa was acquainted with the victim and the two got into an argument over money.

Vicente says Figueroa was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in New Bedford District Court on charges of Attempted Murder, Assault and Battery by means of a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, and Assault and Battery to collect a loan causing serious bodily injury.
