A speed boat regatta will be back in action on September 10 and 11 at Watson Pond in Taunton!

According to The Taunton Daily Gazette, this year’s race will be renamed The Bill Giles Memorial Regatta, after the longtime race director and regatta founder who died last year.

The regatta will feature 10 hydroplane classes from the Junior Division for children between the ages of 9 to 16.

Giles was a longtime commodore of the South Shore Outboard Association, which sponsors the race every year, and according to its website, the SSOA is one of the most successful powerboat racing clubs in North America. It was started more than 60 years ago by a small group of hydroplane racing enthusiasts on the South Shore and it continues to run outboard races to this day.
