A Sobriety Checkpoint will be in effect in Plymouth County this weekend.

Massachusetts State Police Superintendent Colonel Richard D. McKeon says the checkpoint will begin Friday and run into Saturday.

It will be implemented on a public way during varied hours.

McKeon says safety will be assured, vehicle selection won't be arbitrary and that any inconveniences to drivers will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety.

Sobriety Checkpoints are conducted to "further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways."

Funding has been provided through a grant from the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
