Sheriff Hodgson, City Council Speak for New Bedford [OPINION]

The hardcore radical left was out in force in the city of New Bedford this weekend, supporting illegal aliens and attacking Sheriff Thomas Hodgson.

Many of the people rallying to protect the interests of illegal aliens in Massachusetts used to walk the same streets supporting the Viet Cong and the Communists in North Vietnam as they were killing and torturing American soldiers.

I will give them credit for being consistent.

The organization doing the protesting is going by the front group name "Bristol County for Correctional Justice" for this action. The real driving force is the radical Coalition for Social Justice run by Dan Gilbarg and Marlene Pollock. They have been around since the Vietnam War and the Weather Underground terrorists and they deserve credit for never giving up on their dream of a better world through socialism, even in the face of tremendous evidence that they are wrong.

But the voters of Bristol County, Massachusetts have spoken on illegal immigration and they support the Sheriff of Bristol County. Sheriff Hodgson has been focused on the problems of illegal immigration since he was first appointed by then-Massachusetts Governor William F. Weld. He has been elected to numerous terms as the sheriff in an area that doesn't normally elect Republicans.

Last week the New Bedford City Council voted to oppose legislation in Massachusetts that would make the Commonwealth a "sanctuary state" for illegal aliens. The vote was a message to the legislative delegation that the local leaders don't want to support an increase in the population of illegal aliens.

Everybody understands the illegal aliens aren't moving to wealthy towns like Marion and Wellesley; they are moving to Bristol County cities like Fall River and New Bedford. One of the biggest voices in the front group "Bristol County for Correctional Justice" is from Marion, which isn't even in Bristol County. It would be amusing to be lectured to by a non-Bristol county resident if it wasn't so serious.

A few years ago an illegal alien murdered a woman in New Bedford. He had been deported after being paroled from a prison term but he returned illegally and murdered his daughter.

Even the Congressman for New Bedford, a Democrat, doesn't support sanctuary cities for illegal aliens. Congressman William Keating was one of the few liberals in the U.S. House to vote with Republicans against certain federal funds going to cities with policies in place to protect illegal immigrants from federal law enforcement.

So a small group of people made some signs and marched the streets of New Bedford to demand the Sheriff of Bristol County resign because he is taking his job seriously and trying to protect the citizens who elected him. This group, some of who don't actually even live in Bristol County, think they know better than the people who elected the New Bedford City Council, Sheriff Hodgson, and Congressman Keating.

Did the protesters stop by the crime scene where Sabrina DaSilva of New Bedford was murdered by an illegal immigrant in 2016? Did they mourn her daughter, who was only two years old when her mother was shot to death by a convicted felon who had already been deported from America? Do the protesters wearing campaign gear for Senator Elizabeth Warren outside of the jail even know the tragic story of Sabrina DaSilva?

When Sheriff Hodgson testified to Congress about the problems caused by illegal aliens, he told the world about Sabrina DaSilva and her slaughter at the hands of an illegal alien. Consider that when you consider who really cares about the safety and well being of the people of Bristol County.
