The New Bedford School Committee is expected to take steps Monday night, attempting to improve academic achievement at the struggling Hayden-McFadden Elementary School. The school has been designated "level four" for several years.

Recently a stakeholders committee was formed to decide on a list of reccemndations for turning around the school's performance. Those recommendations will be presented to the School Committee at Monday's meeting.

The committee is also scheduled to vote to begin negotiations with several bargaining groups to change compensation, working conditions and hours for all of the Hay-Mac employees.

Its already been announced that teachers will have to re-apply for their positions. Officials say although no one will be fired, some could be transferred to other schools.

Tonight's School Committee meeting begins at 6 at the Keith Middle School. .
