Rollover Accident in Acushnet

Eight occupants of a car that flipped over near the corner of North Main and Hamlin Streets in Acushnet Monday night were taken to area hospitals.

Police say that the single-car crash occurred around 8:45 p.m. Seven of the occupants were taken to local hospitals and one to a hospital in Providence. A witness said the driver of the vehicle, a Ford Escape, told police he had swerved to avoid an animal. Police have not released the names of the victims or their conditions. The accident remains under investigation.
