Police Hunt for Shoplifting Suspect

New Bedford Police are looking for a man who attempted to steal six containers of Tide detergent from Market Basket on Tuesday, and then car-jacked a pickup truck in the parking lot to make his escape. 

The man dropped the detergent when store security officers began to give chase.  He jumped into the pickup truck and told the driver to drive away.  He then jumped out of the pick up truck on Sawyer Street, and was last seen running toward Bellville Ave.  No one was hurt.

The suspect is described as a white male around 30 years of age, wearing a white tee-shirt and Red Sox cap.  Anyone with information should call Det. Steven Wadman at 508 991-6300, ext 132.
