NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police are actively investigating an incident of shots fired that occurred early Wednesday morning in the city’s West End.

According to police, patrol units responded on March 27 at around 3:30 p.m. to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of County Street and Austin Street.

Police declined to confirm the number of shots fired or if shells were recovered at the scene.

"To preserve the integrity of the investigation, we refrain from releasing details concerning ballistic evidence and suspects at this time," Assistant Deputy Chief Scott Carola said.

Police said damage was sustained to a vehicle and to a residence, but that no injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
