New Bedford Police will summons into court a city scrap yard owner who allegedly violated city ordinances when purchasing scrap metal.

Police recruited a Police cadet to go undercover and attempt to sell scrap metal at A-W Martin at 1080 Shawmut Avenue.

The cadet brought in some scrap metal and a valve cover marked as belonging to the City of New Bedford. When owner Kenneth Martin asked for identification the seller said he didn't have any. Police say Martin then used his own i-d in making the transaction and handed over the cash.

When confronted by Police later, Martin admitted using his own i-d, but said he never noticed the markings on the valve cover.

He's being cited for failure to keep proper records, entering false information and failure to notify police of suspected stolen property.
