The New Bedford Working Waterfront Festival is happening today as scheduled.

However there was one change; Tropical Storm Jose prevented city scallop-boats from leaving the dock this week, and bringing back scallops for the always enjoyable Scallop Shucking Contest.

Director Jessica Bailey tells WBSM News, the contest has been cancelled and replaced with a scallop-shucking demonstration and a discussion with several captains about their experiences with storms at sea.

Bailey says everything else is "a go."  The Festival is a one day event and officially starts at 11am.

There are two venues this year, Steamship Pier on the waterfront, and the Fishing Heritage Center on Bethel St.  A shuttle bus will be available to transport visitors to each location.
