The City of New Bedford would like to put on ten concerts this year as part of the Summer Sound Series and is seeking a grant to make that happen.

Destination New Bedford is competing for a Levitt AMP Grant Award of $25,000 to pay for the expanded series.

Tourism and Marketing Director Dagney Ashley tells WBSM's Phil Paleologos that the winners will be decided through an online vote.

"You get to go online and vote Destination New Bedford for these concerts, the Top 25 are then narrowed down through the Levitt AMP Committee to 15, so those 15 proposals will receive up to $25,000 to extend, or to do a new concert series," siad Ashley.

In addition to increasing the number of concerts, Ashley says that with the additional funds they could also bring in even bigger and more well known performers.

"We've had some great regional and local entertainment and we hope to bring some national entertainment to New Bedford," said Ashley "that would be great for the Summer Concert Series."

The deadline to vote is November 30.
