Dagny Ashley, Director of Tourism & Marketing for the City of New Bedford, spoke with WBSM's Brian Thomas about New Bedford's efforts to secure a Levitt AMP Grant.

The matching grant, would allow the city to expand the Summer Sound Series from six performances to ten consecutive music series on Downtown's State Pier.

Ashley says that with the grant more music acts of high caliber can be brought in, shows can be increased from 2 to 2.5 hours, and the series could run from June through August.

Also with the announcement that Seastreak would be starting a Nantucket to New Bedford ferry in the Spring, Ashley says that an expanded Summer Sound Series would help to make New Bedford a viable tourist destination.

Plus Ashley says that with crowds getting bigger every year this would be a great time to be able to extend the program.

The community with the most votes online will be awarded the grant.
