The City Council seems supportive of installing pianos for public use throughout New Bedford.

Ward Five Councilor Jane Gonsalves proposed the motion Thursday night, after witnessing a similar program achieve great success in Boston. Gonsalves works in Boston, and says she passes by one of the pianos nearly every day.

The idea doesn't jive with everyone though. This caller to WBSM's "Mid-Day Live" says the Council's time is better spent on more important matters.

Gonsalves is looking for three donated pianos to get the program up and running.

The Council's Committee on Appointments and Briefings will meet with city officials and leaders of the art community to discuss the idea.
