UPDATE (2/21, 7:50 a.m.) - New Bedford Police have now confirmed a shooting resulting in a female victim being transported to an area hospital Tuesday night.

New Bedford Police Department spokesman Lt. Nathaniel Rodriguez tells WBSM News that a woman was shot "near the torso area" just before 9 p.m. Tuesday in the area of 130 Chestnut Street. Lt. Rodriguez says the woman was transported to an area hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

No arrests have been announced in connection to the shooting, which remains under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY (2/20, 10:34 p.m.) - New Bedford Police are investigating an "incident" in the city's West End on Tuesday night.

A New Bedford Police Department spokeswoman refused to confirm any details, only telling WBSM News that the "incident is under investigation and we hope to have more in the morning".

WBSM News received multiple reports at around 8:49 p.m. on Tuesday night of a woman who had been shot in the chest at a residence at 130 Chestnut Street. Police scanner reports corroborated claims sent in to WBSM News.

Soon after reports of the shooting, a radio transmission from Rhode Island Hospital stated a female suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest was in transit to be treated for the wound.

Official police confirmation of a woman shot in the chest at 130 Chestnut Street on Tuesday night has not yet been received by WBSM News.
