NEW BEDFORD — Members of the New Bedford Police Department's narcotics division arrested six people on drug charges Wednesday after conducting investigations into street-level drug activity.

Just after 11 a.m., officers in the area of Riverside Park observed two parties conducting drug-related activities. A subsequent search resulted in a small amount of suspected crack and heroin. Both 31-year-old Shawn Rodrigues of Acushnet and 30-year-old Adam Sylvia of Wareham were arrested and charged with possession of a Class A substance (heroin), possession of a Class B substance (heroin) and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Sylvia also had two outstanding warrants and has a previous arrest for heroin possession.

At about 12:27 p.m., officers arrested 28-year-old Lance I. Sousa of New Bedford on a known warrant in the area of 116 Holly Street. A subsequent search of Sousa yielded a counterfeit drug (tested) with intent to distribute. Then at around 3:33 p.m., 30-year-old Danielle M. Brazzo of New Bedford was arrested on a known warrant in the area of 111 County Street, and a search yielded a small amount of suspected heroin. Brazzo faces charges of possession of a Class A drug (heroin) as well as being arrested on the two warrants. A few minutes after that, police arrested 43-year-old Steven Morales on a known warrant. He was also discovered to be in possession of a small amount of suspected heroin and was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class A substance.

About an hour later, police observed street-level drug activity in the area of 96 Cove Street and arrested 23-year-old Christine Dargis of New Bedford. She was found to have a small amount of heroin and charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class A substance and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Dargis also has a previous drug conviction from 2011.
