A New Bedford man is facing drug charges after his arrest on Monday.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says members of the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau set up a surveillance operation after they received information about drug activity being conducted out of 232 Clifford St. in the North End.

During the surveillance, a drug transaction was observed between the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Henry Catanho, and another person near Ashley Blvd. and Clifford St.

Catanho was taken into custody and police obtained a search warrant for his basement apartment at 232 Clifford St.

Vicente says $325 in cash and 61 grams of suspected heroin were seized as a result of the search.

Catanho was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning in New Bedford district court on drug trafficking, drug distribution, and subsequent offenses.

Vicente says Catanho was convicted in 2008 for drug offenses in New Bedford Superior Court.
