The late Senator John McCain was known for his straight talk on the Senate floor as well as on the campaign trail. Locally, City Councilor Brian Gomes regularly delivers straight talk to his fellow councilors and the people of New Bedford, who have been electing him for decades.

Gomes tells it as he sees it and in a world of politically sensitive politicians, he is always refreshing.

Gomes is a vocal supporter of the New Bedford Police Department and he goes out of his way to remind the citizens of the difficult job the police have in keeping the city safe in a time of limited resources.

Gomes is all over the city and he is paying attention to the needs of his city. His long time spent on the council has given him an educational and institutional knowledge. When Gomes speaks on the council floor on an issue, he will often passionately drop a reference to some past matter and how it was handled and how and why the current matters are related. Gomes brings experience and knowledge of the past that only comes from continuously earning the trust of the voters of New Bedford.
