Community organizations that serve the fishing industry are currently collecting applications from ground-fishermen across the state for Federal Disaster funding.

In New Bedford, 129 applications have been submitted so far at the Fishing Partnership office on MacArthur Drive.

The state is preparing to distribute $14 million in disaster aid to crewmembers and boat operators struggling to make a living or who have given up altogether because of declining stocks and tough regulations.

According to seafood consultant Jim Kendall, the hard part is deciding who qualifies for help.....

Fishermen with questions are urged to call the Partnership at 508 991-3043.
