The South Coast is in the grips of an "overdose" epidemic. Police revived three local men with Narcan after they were found comatose. Within a four hour period Wednesday night, the three young men were given another chance for life, but a 50-year-old woman wasn't as lucky. She was found dead next to the Melville Towers downtown.

A lot of people could care less. They think to themselves, as long as those "filthy addicts" aren't my own family members, go ahead, kill yourselves, if that's the life you choose. Do you think like that? Well, I have news for you, if you do think along those lines; don't judge others just because they sin differently from you.

As people first, and then as a community secondly, we have to rethink our attitude towards addiction, because mental illness is not a choice, but recovery is. Narcan has brought back people from near death. I liken it to the modern day 'Lazarus' drug. Once they're revived, we offer them some kind of hope. There is always hope. Never stop believing in hope because miracles happen everyday. I should know.
