Race relations at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School has become a major issue for discussion leading to it being the topic of a student lead forum on Friday.

Dr. Bruce Rose, President of the New Bedford chapter of the NAACP, tells WBSM's Brian Thomas on Monday that he believes the students' concerns are valid and that one need only look to social media to see that their claims have merit.

"There was some discriminatory action taken towards them, the comments that they had to endure," said Rose "and certainly the reprehensible diatribe offered on social media by Mr. [Lino] Cabral gives credence to that."

Rose also expressed his support for the creation of a student committee to address racial issues at the school.

"I do think it's important to listen to sentiments of students," said Rose "sometimes they can be very informative and assist institutions with moving in the right course."

Rose says that even though she will not be in the position much longer, he called on outgoing Superintendent-Director Linda Enos to do all she can in her remaining days to address racial issues in the school.
