Middleborough Police Update Fox Search Progress

MIDDLEBOROUGH — Middleborough Police and Animal Control would like to provide residents with an update on where things stand with today's search for a fox that is believed to have attacked two people late last night and this morning.

Middleborough Animal Control, Massachusetts Environmental Police and the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife searched throughout the day today in the area of Route 44 near Plymouth Street.

As of 7 p.m., the fox had not been located.

Multiple traps were set up throughout the area and the search will continue on Tuesday.

Anyone who sees a fox in the area of Route 44 near the Nemasket River is asked to call Middleborough Animal Control at 508-946-2455 or Middleborough Police at 508-947-1212.

Police urge residents to not approach any foxes that they may come across and to call officials as soon as possible to report their location.

At approximately 7:10 a.m. today, a woman was bitten by a fox at the Kampgrounds of America (KOA), 438 Plymouth St.

Last night, at approximately 9:45 p.m., police received a report that a woman on Muttock Lane was attacked by a fox.
Both women were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Muttock Lane is less than a half-mile away from the KOA campground. Both attacks are believed to have been carried out by a single animal.
