A Freetown home is heavily damaged after a fire broke out.

According to the Standard Times, there were no injuries in the fire at 3 Walnut street Thursday afternoon, even though the homeowner and two grandchildren were in the house, unaware the building was burning.

Firefighters alerted the family and escorted them to safety while emergency crews worked for an hour to extinguish the fire.

Damage to the home is estimated at $400,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
