A New Bedford police cruiser was damaged in a collision early Tuesday and the driver of a white sedan has been charged with OUI liquor and a marked lanes violation.

At round 1:20 a.m. a motor vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Tarkiln Hill Road and Church Street, New Bedford Police Department spokesman Lt. Nathaniel Rodriguez confirmed. The officer was transported to Saint Luke's Hospital with minor injuries and the other driver had no apparent injuries, according to a report.

Rodriguez said it was not a pure head-on collision, but that the front quarter panels of both vehicles were damaged. The cruiser was towed from the scene.

Rodgriguez said the department will follow its typical protocol when cruisers are involved in accidents.
