NEWTON — Congressman Joe Kennedy III is returning to the U.S. – Mexico border to be updated on what’s being called a humanitarian crisis.

On Monday, Kennedy is returning to the border with colleagues to visit border facilities in El Paso and Clint, Texas and receive an update on humanitarian conditions.

Kennedy says the “atrocities” being carried out at the border can no longer be ignored.

“We cannot divert our eyes from the atrocities being carried out along our border in the name of the United States government. The reports from these detention centers continue to defy our laws, our decency and our humanity. Returning to the border will allow my colleagues and I to investigate, bear witness, and hold President Trump accountable for this abuse,” Kennedy said.

In a statement released on Friday, Kennedy joined the long list of Democrats calling for President Trump’s impeachment, saying that after reading the Mueller report in full and consulting with legal experts, it’s time for Congress to act.
