BUZZARDS BAY — The Coast Guard suspended its search Thursday at 1:09 p.m. for a possible mariner in distress in Buzzards Bay after the searches yielded no findings or correlating information.

The Coast Guard launched the search Wednesday night after hearing three faint mayday calls over the radio. Watchstanders responded to the call but were unable to establish communications with the caller.

The search covered a total 767 square nautical miles and included Coast Guard, state, and local responders. Three Coast Guard vessels, the Mass Environmental Police and members of the fire departments in Fairhaven, New Bedford, Mattapoisett and Dartmouth all took part in the search.

The search is suspended pending the development of any new information.
