City Council To Choose City Clerk Thursday Night

A new clerk for the City of New Bedford will be chosen Thursday.

There are two nominees: current Carver Assistant Town Clerk Elizabeth Nichols and New Bedford’s current Clerk of Committees Dennis Farias.

Both candidates are vying for the job held by outgoing Clerk Rita Arruda.

Nichols has been a finalist for city clerk in Weymouth and town clerk in Middleborough while Farias, a former city councilor for Ward One, is also Director of Marketing & Development for Freetown’s Crystal Springs.

Both candidates are New Bedford residents.

The entire City Council will cast their votes for the next city clerk at Thursday night’s meeting.
