The local unemployment rates are released by the State Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The latest figures show that Greater New Bedford still leads the State with the highest rate at 11.5%, which is about a half of percentage point lower than the previous month but the same rate as a year ago.

There's been a slight increase in Greater New Bedford's labor force and a slight decrease in the number of people unemployed. Greater Fall River has the second highest rate in the state at 11.1% and the Greater Lawrence area remains in third place at 11%t.

The City of New Bedford's rate remained the same as the previous month at 14% unemployed.
