The National Weather Service expects damaging winds and possible flooding to blow through the South Coast this afternoon.

A high wind warning is in effect from 3 p.m. through 11 p.m. this evening. Wind gusts over 58 mph may occur and could be strong enough to fell trees, large branches and power lines, which would likely result in power outages.

South Coastal Massachusetts (including the communities of Fall River, New Bedford, and Mattapoisett) as well as Cape Cod and the islands could be affected. Residents are urged to keep flashlights handy.

A flash flood watch is also in effect for the same time frame as additional rains move up across Southern New England this afternoon and into tonight. Rains may fall at a rate of up to one inch per hour, and could result in urban and poor drainage flooding.
